an apartment in ramlet el bayda, held between two weights. pentelico marble runs underfoot, pale and continuous, while a wall of black palissandro stands opposite, dark and reflective, a surface for shadow to gather on. between them the rooms are kept calm. a single floor to ceiling pane opens the living space to the terrace and the light, and on the far wall bronze channel lighting grazes the dark stone, low and precise. linen and macrame filter the day as it crosses, so the brightness arrives softened, and walnut warms the edges. nothing competes. the materials are left to speak in their own register, and the light measures the distance between the pale floor and the dark wall.
